The 90s is an immersive body of work by Olivier Salvas that explores the emotional landscape of a decade remembered for its colour, energy, optimism, and cultural transformation.
Through vibrant abstract paintings and installation, the project invites audiences into a world shaped by six interconnected themes: memory, colour, visibility, energy, joy, and pride. Rather than recreating specific moments from the 1990s, the exhibition captures the feeling of the era and examines how shared cultural memories continue to influence identity, belonging, and human connection today.
Bold fluorescent colours, dynamic compositions, and layered surfaces create an environment that encourages visitors to move beyond observation and into experience. The works function as visual prompts, allowing each person to bring their own memories, associations, and interpretations into the space.
At its core, The 90s explores joy as a meaningful artistic medium. Joy is not simply the outcome of the experience—it is the material from which the project is built. Through colour, movement, and collective recognition, the work celebrates optimism, play, self-expression, and the power of being seen.
Presented during Pride Month, the project also reflects on visibility and belonging. While not exclusively a queer exhibition, The 90s acknowledges the cultural shifts that expanded representation and created space for more voices, identities, and experiences to emerge.
Building upon recurring themes found throughout Salvas' artistic practice, The 90s embraces the idea that art can be both accessible and transformative—a shared cultural experience that invites participation, reflection, and connection.
More than an exhibition about a decade, The 90s is an invitation to step into a state of mind.
